Frequently Asked Questions
What is Quartz?
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the earth's crust, it is also one of the toughest. For this reason it ranks as one of the toughest stone worktops on the market.
Why should I choose Stonecover for my new worktops?
Because we have the best overlay Quartz worktop available in the world. Ours is the most natural in terms of looks and feel, it also comes with a 10 year warranty!
How does granite compare to your worktops?
Slab granite is obviously a completely natural product from the earth. Its extremely beautiful but unfortunately it does come with faults and imperfections that, at best can harbour bacteria and at worst crack or chip. As Quartz is an engineered stone, there are non of these impurities, faults or imperfections found within slab granite. This leads to a stronger, easier to maintain, more robust worktop while maintaining the natural beauty of a stone worktop.
How do solid surface worktops compare to your worktops?
They don’t! No solid surface worktop compares to the beauty of natural stone! Solid surfaces are made up of just plastic polymer which feels like plastic and does not have the same depth or shine of our material.
What if I chip my new Quartz worktop?
We will come out and repair it completely free of charge using a specialist stone repair kit.
Can I put hot pans on my new worktop?
Although Quartz can withstand very high temperatures, we advise against putting hot pans directly onto it. Fear not, with every worktop we will provide a free chopping board in matching material for you to put to the test!
How easily can Quartz be scratched?
Quartz is 7 on the MOHS scale. The MOHS scale basically determines the scratch resistance of materials in accordance with which material can scratch/mark another material. Based on this scale only diamonds, saphires and topaz are tougher, making quartz a highly scratch resistant surface!
What sort of warranty will I get?
We’re so confident in our worktops, every install comes with a 10 year warranty!
Is your product suitable for any worktop?
As long as your worktop is sound, we can cover it. All we ask is for you to clear your existing worktops on the day of templating, we’ll then go and fabricate your new quartz worktop to fit straight on top of your existing surfaces.
Will my Quartz worktop stain?
You’d be very unclucky to stain your Quartz worktop. Unlike granite and marble, Quartz is non porous meaning any spillages will simply pool on the surface until wiped off.
Is it hard to maintain a Quartz worktop?
Again, due to the fact its non porous, unlike granite and marble it doesn’t need routine sealing or maintenance.
Where can I view your worktops?
At this stage we are only offering home consultations while we seek suitable showroom premises. We feel home consultations offer you the best service anyway as you get to see the product in your home on your terms. We aren’t pushy in any way, once you’ve seen the product we’re confident you’ll love it but we’ll wait for you to call us back to register your interest!
Will I be without my appliances while my worktops are being fitted?
As we can normally install the worktops in just one day, you won’t be without your sink or hob which will need to removed for us to fit the worktops. On a job that requires more than one day to install, we’ll do our utmost to ensure you have running water and gas back on in your kitchen by the end of day one.
Do you do commercial work?
Our surfaces are ideal for commercial work due to the logistical barriers we can avoid as opposed to using slab granite or marble. Please contact us for further information.
